Adoptions

Dogs at the shelterDue to limited staff, we arrange adoptions at the shelter by appointment only. Please call or email and make an appointment to visit our adult dogs and cats available for adoption. Southside SPCA currently does not adopt puppies in Virginia (see Homebound Hounds).

We hold dog adoptions at PETSMART, 1276 Car Mia Way in Richmond (off Midlothian Turnpike between Johnston-Willis Hospital and Chesterfield Towne Center) every Saturday from 10:30 am to 2:30 pm.

Southside SPCA has cats and kittens for adoption 7 days a week at these stores:

  • Pet Club - Huguenot Village Shopping Ctr.
    2009 Huguenot Road, Richmond, 804-272-3540
  • PetsMart - White Oak Village
    4531 S. Laburnum Ave., Richmond, 23231, 804-236-3245

Spay/Neuter:
Southside SPCA practices 100% spay/neuter; all dogs, puppies, cats, and kittens are spayed or neutered prior to adoption.

We reserve the right to refuse any adoption and require potential adopters to:

  • Be at least 21 years of age
  • Fill out an application form
  • Submit to a home visit prior to adoption (with all family members)
  • Provide adequate written proof of permission by landlord to house a pet if renting a house or apartment
